THE GOOD NEWS!
Here are 7 good things that are coming out of our current situation and a great “prescription” for this crisis:
Opportunities to share the Gospel –
Undoubtably this is one of the most obvious. The frailty of life and our ability to control what happens always drives people to the creator. We have amazing opportunities as believers to show the peace, grace, and love of God in the midst of storms and crisis that involve our health or pocketbooks.
Opportunities to serve –
Every person in need represents a chance to share and show God’s love. We can build relationships by reaching out to serve those most vulnerable both in our church and our communities.
Opportunities to grow spiritually –
Nothing like taking our faith off the shelf and giving it a good test drive! Now we really have to practice scriptures like “Fear not”, or “Do not be anxious about tomorrow”.
Greater preparedness –
A crisis this widespread has exposed all the weaknesses in our government, health system, churches, and families. It’s a great time to update and improve how we handle future situations.
The return of common courtesy –
Have you ever seen so many strangers be so kind to one another? The crisis has made us more aware of the preciousness of life, and we are paying more attention to one another’s needs and not just our own.
A weaning from our sports and entertainment addictions –
We have been forced into a sports and entertainment fast because of the mass cancellations and studio shutdowns. For many these “idols” now seem trivial and trite compared to the seriousness of our current reality.
An attitude of gratitude –
When we look at how bad things are for other countries less capable of defending themselves or withstanding adversity, we should be thankful. Whether it’s the generally mild symptoms, or the low mortality rate of COVID-19, there are all kinds of things more frightening and deadly than the current virus.
Here’s a great prescription for the fear this crisis is spreading. Take it, read it. You’ll feel better right away!
Seeking intimacy with God has the power to transform lives. Our hope is that every person will be on a vital journey to become who God made them to be, abiding in Him, and drawing closer every day. We recognize that there are many needs in our communities today, and we’re continuing to pray together for our world and for people who are struggling.
